Michael Lazzara

State Senator
(R-Onslow)

Chairman of the NC Senate
Transportation Committee

"Conservative Champion for the People of Onslow County."

Senator Michael Lazzara is serving his third term in the North Carolina Senate, representing Onslow County with a strong commitment to economic opportunity, education, and support for military families.

A Marine Corps veteran and successful entrepreneur, Lazzara’s career reflects a lifetime of service and leadership. Born in Palermo, Sicily, and raised in Chicago, Lazzara served in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1986, achieving the rank of corporal at Camp Lejeune.

Following his military service, he built a thriving business career as the founder of Michaelangelo’s Pizza, Lazzara’s Pizza, and owner of Vital Signs. His entrepreneurial success has been recognized with multiple civic honors, including Small Business Person of the Year and Civic Honor lifetime achievement awards.

Before his election to the NC Senate, Lazzara served on the Jacksonville City Council beginning in 2005, including service as Mayor Pro Tem. He led initiatives to strengthen military-community partnerships, improve transportation infrastructure, and expand local economic opportunities. A longtime advocate for youth sports, he also played a key role in developing a major soccer facility to support both recreation and economic growth.

Since elected to the NC Senate in 2021, Senator Lazzara has focused on policies that strengthen Onslow County and North Carolina — championing economic development, healthcare access, infrastructure improvements, and educational opportunities. His leadership is grounded in his deep connection to the community and his dedication to public service.
