New Committee Chair Appointment
I’m honored to share that Senate Leader Phil Berger has appointed me as Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Unemployment Insurance. This committee is essential to ensuring that our unemployment system works effectively and responsibly for the people of North Carolina.
I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure our system is efficient, financially sound, and equipped to support North Carolinians during their times of need — free from any waste, fraud, or abuse. Together, we’ll strengthen accountability and improve outcomes for our state’s workforce and families.
Additional Relief for Western NC
I’m excited to share the Senate’s passage of a second major relief package — $644M — to support Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in Western NC. Here’s how we’re investing in the rebuild efforts:
💧 $139M to repair essential water & wastewater infrastructure
🏫 $102M to rebuild schools, support student mental health, and fund scholarships for impacted students
🛠️ $100M in local government assistance to keep rebuilding on track
💼 $50M in small business loans to help local businesses reopen
👨👩👧👦 $71M for health, childcare, and housing aid to keep families safe
We will continue in our efforts to assist our neighbors in need and rebuild Western NC.
