Dear Neighbor,
What a month it’s been for our community and our state. Seeing Jacksonville named a 2025 All-America City is a proud moment — not just because of the recognition, but because it reflects the resilience and unity that define us. I’ve seen that spirit firsthand over the years, and it’s incredibly meaningful to see it honored on a national stage.
We’ve also made real progress on key issues in Raleigh — including $700 million more in Hurricane Helene relief, strong steps to secure our borders, and new laws that support our law enforcement officers and first responders.
I’ll continue to push back on Governor Stein’s vetoes that undermine public safety and stand firm in defense of our Onslow County values. As always, I’m here to serve you. If there’s anything my office can do for you or your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
At your service,
Michael Lazzara
North Carolina Senator
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

As we gathered with family and friends, we took a moment to remember the courage and conviction that built our nation. Freedom isn’t free — it’s earned and protected by those who serve and sacrifice. Grateful every day to call this country home. Semper Fi.
JACKSONVILLE NAMED 2025 ALL-AMERICA CITY

Proud moment for Jacksonville!
Being named an All-America City is a testament to the resilience, unity, and strategic growth of our community. As someone who served 14 years as Mayor Pro Tem and worked closely on our environmental recovery efforts, it’s incredible to see our hard work recognized on a national stage.
Congratulations to all who made this possible for Jacksonville, NC!
HURRICANE HELENE RELIEF

At the end of June, the NC General Assembly passed House Bill 1012, delivering $700M more in Hurricane Helene relief — now signed into law by the Governor.
Our recent recovery package includes:
$70M for local government repairs
$64M for damaged schools
$75M for roads & bridges
$25M for farm recovery
This brings us to over $2.1 BILLION in total relief for Western NC.
CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2025!

Congratulations to the Onslow County Class of 2025!
More than 2,000 graduates have earned over $25 million in scholarships, with many heading to college, careers, and military service.
Your dedication, resilience, and leadership make our community proud. The future of Onslow is in great hands!
GOVERNOR STEIN'S VETOES

Governor Stein’s vetoes send the wrong message to law enforcement and law-abiding citizens across North Carolina. By siding with open-border extremists and rejecting constitutional gun rights, he’s choosing political posturing over public protection. These vetoes weaken our communities — and I will stand firm in voting to override them.
Here's an up-to-date list of legislation vetoed by the Governor:
House Bill 318 — The Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcement Act.
Senate Bill 50 — Freedom to Carry NC.
Senate Bill 153 — North Carolina Border Protection Act.
House Bill 402 — Limit Rules With Substantial Financial Costs.
Senate Bill 254 — Charter School Changes.
Senate Bill 266 — The Power Bill Reduction Act.
House Bill 549 — Clarify Powers of State Auditor.
NC BORDER PROTECTION ACT

In June, the NC General Assembly passed Senate Bill 153 — a strong step to protect our communities, secure our borders, and ensure taxpayer dollars go only to those here legally.
We’re standing up for the rule of law, backing law enforcement, and holding local governments accountable. Now, my colleagues and I are preparing to override Governor Stein's veto, to ensure the safety of North Carolina families and neighborhoods.
SUPPORT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT

Last month, the NC Senate unanimously passed House Bill 50, giving veteran law enforcement officers the option to stay on the job longer without losing retirement benefits.
This bill helps address staffing shortages while honoring the service of those who protect our communities every day. I proudly supported this legislation and I am pleased that Governor Stein has signed it into law.
MEETING WITH ONSLOW SHERIFF

It was a pleasure to welcome Sheriff Chris Thomas to our office at the NC General Assembly. We had a productive discussion on priorities for sheriffs across North Carolina and the specific needs of Onslow County. I’m grateful for his leadership and commitment to keeping our communities safe.
