Dear Neighbor,
We’re officially back in Raleigh for the short session, and we’ve gotten straight to work. With a limited timeframe, the focus is on staying disciplined — addressing the issues that matter most to Onslow County while making sure we’re being responsible with taxpayer dollars and keeping government accountable.
That means continuing to support our military communities, strengthening infrastructure, and making smart decisions that protect both our economy and our quality of life here at home. You’ll see some of that work reflected in this month’s update, along with what we’ve been doing across the district.
I appreciate the opportunity to serve you and represent Onslow County in the North Carolina Senate. As always, if you have a question, concern, or need assistance, my office is here to help.
At your service,
Michael Lazzara
North Carolina Senator
THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE OYSTER

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Swansboro for “The Fellowship of the Oyster.” It was a fantastic evening of community, great food, and huge turnout of support from our friends and neighbors.
We were honored to hear from leaders like State Auditor Dave Boliek, Labor Commissioner Luke Farley, Congressman Greg Murphy, U.S. Senate Candidate Michael Whatley, and many others.
We're tremendously grateful to all who came out to stand with us in support of our re-election campaign. Your support keeps us moving forward as we continue working to deliver results for the people of North Carolina.
If you did not make it to the event but would like to support our campaign, please consider chipping in online via our website: https://www.lazzaranc.com/donate
ONSLOW BEACH BRIDGE OFFICIALLY OPEN

I’m proud to see the new Onslow Beach Bridge officially open and already making a significant difference in our community.
This long-awaited project improves access to one of our region’s most treasured coastal areas while enhancing safety, supporting tourism, and strengthening our local economy. Investments like this are about more than infrastructure, they’re about ensuring eastern North Carolina continues to prosper.
I’m grateful to everyone who played a role in bringing this project to life, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have for years to come.
DEFENDER OF FREEDOM AWARD BY AFP

I’m honored to be recognized with the Defender of Freedom award by Americans for Prosperity. My constituents in Onslow County sent me to Raleigh to fight for lower taxes, limited government, and more opportunity for the people of North Carolina. I’m proud to stand for these principles that keep our state strong.
STATEMENT ON LEANDRO RULING

The North Carolina Supreme Court’s ruling in Leandro reaffirms an important principle: policymaking belongs in the hands of the people’s elected representatives — not the courts.
I stand with Senate leadership in ensuring North Carolina families have a strong voice in education and in defending the integrity of our legislative process.
We will continue working to expand educational opportunity, strengthen parental involvement, and deliver results for every student in every zip code.
NC LEAGUE OF MUNICIPALITIES TOWN & STATE DINNER IN WILMINGTON

I recently had the honor of delivering remarks at the NC League of Municipalities’ Town & State Dinner in Wilmington — connecting with local leaders from across our region.
Having previously served as the Mayor Pro Tem of Jacksonville and President of the NC League of Municipalities, I appreciated the opportunity to discuss the issues that matter most to our communities and hear directly from those working on the front lines of local government.
Effective partnerships between state and local leaders is essential to keeping North Carolina moving in the right direction. Thank you to everyone who took part in a great evening of conversation and collaboration.
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER

I was honored to join community and military leaders at Marine Corps Air Station New River recently for an important discussion on strengthening our region’s future.
I appreciated the opportunity to speak alongside Col. Gregory Pace and Ed Dillard as we focused on smart growth, infrastructure, and ways we can continue supporting the men and women who serve — along with their families.
Strong partnerships between our local communities and our military installations are essential. I remain committed to working together to ensure eastern North Carolina continues to thrive while maintaining the highest quality of life for those who defend our nation.
MILITARY CHILD OF THE YEAR FOR THE USMC

Congratulations to Onslow County's own Hannah Kirksey of Dixon High School for being named the 2026 Military Child of the Year for the U.S. Marine Corps by Operation Homefront.
Hannah’s story is a powerful reminder that service extends beyond those who wear the uniform. From navigating her father's 16 deployments to founding a club that supports fellow military students, Hannah has turned challenges into leadership and compassion for others.
We thank her family for their sacrifice and commend Hannah for representing Onslow County and all of North Carolina with such strength and character.
