Upgrades to Onslow County Landfill, Keeping Cost of Trash Disposal Low
I’m proud to announce that we secured $20 million in state funds for the expansion and equipment upgrades at the Onslow County Landfill.
This investment is crucial not only for extending the landfill’s lifespan to continue managing waste effectively — but also for keeping the cost of trash disposal down for many years to come.
With Phase 5 now complete and future phases on the horizon, we’re taking important steps to protect our environment and support local jobs.
Onslow County Sees Significant Increase in Tourism Spending
Onslow County saw a remarkable 8.5% increase in tourism spending in 2023, reaching $412.12 million. This growth highlights the success of our attractions, restaurants, and outdoor activities, with North Topsail Beach named a top trending destination.
The tourism sector supports over 2,485 jobs and generated $94.7 million in payroll. Local and state tax revenues from tourism totaled $28.8 million.
We’re grateful to our tourism and hospitality partners for their continued contributions to our community’s success.
Breaking Ground on Welcome Area at Lejeune Memorial Gardens
This month, we had the honor of breaking ground on a project that has been 20 years in the making — a new welcome area and restroom facility at the Lejeune Memorial Gardens.
This project is a testament to the strong partnership between the City of Jacksonville, Onslow County, Camp Lejeune, and the North Carolina General Assembly.
I’m proud to have secured $500,000 in state funding alongside Representative George Cleveland, making this vision a reality. With additional support from Onslow and Jacksonville Tourism, we’re enhancing the experience for all who come to honor our heroes.
Senator Lazzara Selected for Prestigious CSG Fellowship
I am deeply honored to have been selected for the Council of State Governments' prestigious fellowship. This opportunity will allow me to collaborate with leaders from across the nation, sharing ideas and learning new approaches to better serve the people of North Carolina.
I look forward to bringing back valuable insights that will help us make Onslow County the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
