5 More Veto Overrides
We recently overrode 5 more of Governor Cooper's vetoes, bringing our total to 19 veto overrides this year. These new laws will:
✅ Bring accountability to state boards and commissions (SB 512)
✅ Deliver bipartisan election reforms and security measures (SB 747 & 749)
✅ Provide for an ‘all of the above’ clean energy strategy (SB 678)
✅ Cut more red tape to drive progress and prosperity in North Carolina (HB 600)
One override at a time, we’re making North Carolina the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Keeping ENC Marine Corps Together
This photo gives you a look inside the Senate Redistricting & Elections Committee, with my friend Senator Jim Perry on the left. Senator Perry and I worked together in the congressional redistricting process to ensure our Marine Corps personnel and their families have a unified voice in Congress.
North Carolina has a long and proud tradition of supporting our military, and by keeping these three Marine Corps bases together, we are reaffirming our commitment to those who serve and protect our nation. This decision is a testament to the dedication of our state to its heroes.
40th Anniversary of Beirut Bombing
Earlier this month, the people of Onslow County welcomed the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Eric Smith, to offer his remarks at Jacksonville’s 40th anniversary memorial ceremony of the Beirut bombing. This was a somber and special day for local gold star families whose fallen family members’ names hold a place amongst the 241 listed on the Beirut memorial wall in Jacksonville.
Onslow Schools Principal of the Year
I'm thrilled to share that Lisa Marshall, Principal of Northwoods Elementary School, has been named the 2023-2024 Onslow County Schools Principal of the Year.
With over 20 years of experience in education, Lisa's dedication to creating a positive and supportive school environment is truly exceptional. She began her journey as a teacher at Northwoods Elementary and later became their principal.
Lisa's leadership is an inspiration to all, and her relentless dedication has resulted in significant improvements in student proficiency. They not only exceeded their growth goals in the 2022-2023 school year but also earned recognition as one of the top 25% of schools in North Carolina for year-over-year growth.
Congratulations, Principal Lisa Marshall – your leadership is greatly appreciated.
