The Onslow Observer: Road Safety, Suspending the Gas Tax, & More...
Dear Neighbor,
Whether you're driving to work, taking your children to school, or simply crossing the street in your neighborhood, safety on our roads affects every one of us. That's why I was glad to help lead a Traffic Safety Summit in Wilmington, bringing together law enforcement, transportation experts, and local leaders to talk about the challenges we're seeing and what can be done to address them.
With October being National Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month, it's also a good reminder that we all have a part to play in keeping our roads safe. I appreciated the opportunity to speak with WWAY News about this issue, and you'll find more from that conversation in this month's newsletter.
I've also been working in Raleigh on legislation addressing the cost of fuel for North Carolina families and businesses. You'll find an update on the Relief at the Pump Act, along with news from around our community and information about the upcoming election.
Early Voting is now underway through October 31, and Election Day is November 3. I've included a link to official voting locations and hours to help you find the information you need.
Thank you for allowing me to serve Onslow County. My office remains available to help with questions, concerns, or issues involving state government. As always, I appreciate hearing from you.
At your service,
Michael Lazzara
North Carolina Senator

LAZZARA VOTES TO SUSPEND GAS TAX

Whether you’re driving to work, taking the kids to school, or running a business, higher fuel costs take a bigger bite out of your budget.
This month in the NC Senate, we took action to provide North Carolinians with relief at the pump.
I was proud to support the Relief at the Pump Act, which suspends the state motor fuel tax and helps ease the burden of fuel costs on families, farmers, and businesses.
We also have a responsibility to protect the transportation funding our state depends on. This legislation provides immediate relief while helping maintain the funding needed for our roads and infrastructure.
I’m proud to support common-sense relief that helps put more money back in the pockets of hardworking North Carolinians.
TRAFFIC SAFETY SUMMIT IN WILMINGTON

I was glad to help lead the Traffic Safety Summit in Wilmington — bringing together law enforcement, transportation experts, local leaders, and advocates to discuss how we can make North Carolina’s roads safer.
From speeding and distracted driving to the growing use of e-bikes, these conversations are important as we work toward practical solutions that promote safe transportation for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their perspective!
NATIONAL PEDESTRIAN SAFETY MONTH

October is National Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month — and I recently spoke with WWAY News about the importance of pedestrian safety and what we can do to prevent unnecessary traffic fatalities.
Making our roads safer takes both common-sense safety measures and personal responsibility. The choices we make behind the wheel can make a real difference.
LAZZARA ENDORSED BY PROFESSIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS & PARAMEDICS OF NORTH CAROLINA

Thank you to the Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics of North Carolina for your endorsement! Our firefighters and paramedics serve on the front lines when our communities need them most. I’m proud to have their support and will continue working on behalf of the people of southeastern North Carolina.
LAZZARA ENDORSED BY NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS (NFIB)

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and I’m honored to receive the endorsement of NFIB North Carolina.
NFIB’s endorsement recognizes my record and commitment to policies that support small business owners, encourage economic opportunity, and keep North Carolina’s business climate strong.
I’m grateful for the confidence of North Carolina’s small business community — and will continue working to ensure entrepreneurs have the freedom and opportunity to succeed.
CONGRATULATIONS, JUDGE GILMORE!

Congratulations to my good friend Judge Robert Gilmore, now officially a Superior Court Judge! Wishing you every success as you serve our community and uphold the rule of law.
