NEWS: Lazzara Seeking Re-Election to NC Senate

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – Last month, the General Assembly passed new district maps for Congress, NC House, and NC Senate. Not subject to the Governor’s approval, these maps are now law and will take effect for the 2024 Election. Voters across the state have been learning more about their new districts, and the candidates running to represent them.

On Monday, Senator Michael Lazzara (R-Onslow) announced that he will seek a third term to represent District 6 in the North Carolina Senate.

“After prayer and deliberation, I’m excited to announce that I am running for re-election to continue serving the people of District 6 in the NC Senate,” said Lazzara, “It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to receive the trust and confidence of our community to serve as their voice in Raleigh.”

Using decennial U.S. Census data, the General Assembly is required by the constitution to redraw districts every 10 years. The new Senate District 6 remains exactly as it did for the 2022 Election – encompassing all of Onslow County.

“Thank you to all of our friends and supporters in Onslow County for reaching out with your encouragement to run for re-election,” said Lazzara, “I look forward to continuing to improve our communities through my support of public safety, quality education, infrastructure enhancements, and economic development. We still have legislative business to accomplish ahead of the next election, and I will continue to fight for our values and for the people of our community.”

A Marine Corps veteran, successful entrepreneur, and community leader dedicated to serving the people of Onslow County, Senator Lazzara was first elected to the North Carolina Senate in 2021.

While in office, Lazzara has led the efforts to eliminate state income tax on military pensions for veterans, safeguard parental rights in education, and pass meaningful reforms to combat the use of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs. He has been a strong advocate for policies that protect the sanctity of life, defend the Second Amendment, and uphold Voter ID laws. At the beginning of the 2023 Session, Senate Leader Phil Berger appointed Lazzara to serve as a Chairman of the Committee on Transportation.
